Umrah
Allah Most High tells us in the Holy Quran: “Wa atimmul Hajja wal Umrata Lillaa” “And complete your Hajj and Umrah in Service to Allah”
Umrah in the Arabic language is derived from the word “al -i'timar” which means: “to visit”. However, according to the Sharee-ah, it means to visit the House of Allah in a specific manner.
Many arguments abound whereby pilgrims who wish to perform Umrah only are told that they are not allowed to do so because they must first perform the Haj. This is not so. The Nabi (PBUH), himself performed four Umrahs before he performed his Hajj during the 10th year of the Hijrah.
“Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet (PBUH) performed four Umrahs in his life time – the Umrah of Hudaibiyyah, one that the Prophet (PBUH) performed to make up for another missed Umrah, a third from Al-Ji'raanah and the fourth he combined with Hajj. (Ahmad, Abu Dawud)
